Emcee - The Sengkang GRC Chinese New Year Celebration, held on 8 February 2025 at the Sengkang CC Hardcourt, was a vibrant and festive gathering that brought together residents, grassroots leaders, and sponsors for an evening of cultural performances, community bonding, and joyous celebrations.
The event was expertly hosted by emcees Singapore Ivan and Ferlyn, who kept the energy high throughout the night. The celebration was graced by the presence of esteemed Grassroots Advisers (GRAs) to Sengkang GRC, including Dr. Lam Pin Min, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elmie Nekmat, and Miss Theodora Lai, who were warmly welcomed by a lively Lion Dance Troupe featuring two lions, a dragon, and a mascot.
The evening featured a series of captivating cultural performances, including a Lion Dance and Drums Opening Act, a mesmerizing Si Chuan Bian Lian (Face Change) performance, and a Chinese Ribbon Dance. Musical performances by emcee Ferlyn herself, and Shai Othman added a multicultural touch, with songs in Mandarin, Malay, Hindi, and English. The emcees skillfully guided the audience through each segment, ensuring smooth transitions and engaging interactions. The GRAs were presented with congratulatory scrolls bearing auspicious messages, symbolizing good fortune, prosperity, and peace for the nation.
Dr. Lam Pin Min delivered a heartfelt welcome address, expressing gratitude to the community and sponsors for their unwavering support. The emcees then facilitated a plaque presentation ceremony, honouring 27 sponsors from Sengkang West, East, North, and Central, recognizing their contributions to the event and the community. The celebration also included a Mass Lo-Hei (Prosperity Toss) session, symbolizing unity and good fortune for the new year, as well as table toasting and photo-taking sessions that allowed residents to interact with the GRAs.
The emcees kept the excitement alive with a series of lucky draws, featuring prizes ranging from NTUC vouchers to grand prizes such as a Dyson Vacuum Cleaner, Apple iPad, Dyson Fan, and Apple AirPods. The grand finale saw the emcees Singapore inviting GRAs, organizing committee members, and residents on stage for a Mass CNY Singing Session, where traditional Chinese New Year songs like "Gong Xi Gong Xi" and "He Xing Nian" were sung.
The celebration concluded on a high note, leaving attendees with cherished memories and a strengthened sense of community spirit. Special thanks were extended to the organizing committee, volunteers, sponsors, performers, and the dynamic emcees for their dedication to making the event a resounding success.
