These events celebrated the department's outstanding contributions to healthcare over the past 35 years.
The day began at the NAK Auditorium, where guests were greeted with refreshments and time for networking. At 9:30 AM, Emcee Singapore Ivan officially commenced the 2nd SingHealth Colorectal Congress, welcoming attendees with enthusiasm. Prof. Emile Tan, Head of the Department of Colorectal Surgery at SGH & NCCS, delivered an opening address, reflecting on the department’s growth in patient care, research, and technological advancements over the past 35 years. He also presented a keynote on the future of colorectal surgery, focusing on innovations and challenges in the field.
Following this, expert speakers presented on key topics in colorectal care, exploring minimally invasive surgical techniques and the impact of precision medicine in colorectal cancer treatment. The morning concluded with a panel discussion on the importance of collaborative care in achieving optimal patient outcomes, underscoring the role of multidisciplinary teams in modern healthcare.
In the evening, the SGH Colorectal Surgery 35th Anniversary Dinner at VOCO Orchard Singapore began with a cocktail reception, allowing guests to mingle before the formal dinner. The emcee guided the evening's programme and introduced the Guest of Honour, Mr. George Yeo, who delivered a speech highlighting the importance of innovation and collaboration in healthcare. Prof. Tan then offered a heartfelt welcome address, expressing gratitude to all those who have supported the department’s journey.
The evening featured a video presentation showcasing the milestones and achievements of the department over the years. Guests also enjoyed a heartfelt dance performance by the Joyous Volunteers Group, followed by a moving song, “奋斗” (Striving), by colorectal cancer survivor Ms. Irene Peh, which embodied the resilience and strength of those affected by the disease.
The event culminated in a celebratory toast, with the emcee inviting all guests to raise a glass in honour of the department’s legacy and continued success. The evening concluded with further networking, where guests reflected on the day’s celebrations and the department’s ongoing achievements. As the evening drew to a close, there was a shared sense of anticipation for the future, knowing that the department’s legacy of excellence will continue to inspire and lead for many years to come.
